PhD Scholarships for Colombian Students
Colombian students have an opportunity to apply for funding to do their PhD studies abroad through the Minciencias Scholarship Program (formerly: Colciencias) for a maximum of 48 months. The scholarship covers living expenses, insurance, travel and tuition. The University of Groningen/UMCG is one of the international institutions eligible to receive students with a Minciencias scholarship due to its position on the international rankings.
Calls for Applications
Calls are published on the website of the Colombian Ministry of Sciences. The funding agency Colciencias has become part of the Ministry of Sciences in 2019.
Call for Applications and Deadlines 2023
The 2022-2023 call for applications has not yet been published. The 2021 call for applications for full PhD scholarships abroad was published by the Ministry of Science on 19 May 2021.
Deadlines for the full PhD call for applications:

Mobilities will start during the calendar year (to be confirmed). The earliest possible start date at Groningen is four months after the publications of results.

Alternatively, if you cannot locate a supervisor in your field or experience difficulties getting in touch, feel free to contact the Graduate School. Just make sure to include an English-language CV and a summary of your research project/interests in your communication.
Students who are admitted to the Groningen PhD program and who will obtain their PhD degree (also) from Groningen will receive a top-up of their monthly allowance to the standard for externally funded PhD students. Find more about this unique top-up policy here!
For UMCG Supervisors
In order to prepare the letter of acceptance for Minciencias PhD applicants, UMCG supervisors should provide the Graduate School of Medical Sciences with the information and documentation requested here.
Some scholarship providers allow for the claim of tuition and/or bench fees. More information about GSMS fee policies can be found here.
The maximum funding amount provided by Minciencias in 2021 was COP 350.000.000 for a period of 48 months to cover monthly living expenses (max. COP 5.000.000 per month), insurance, and tuition.
