Universidad de Chile (UCH), strategic partner of the UMCG in its Abel Tasman Talent program, has been awarded a research networking grant by the Chilean Council for Science & Technology (CONICYT). The proposal brings together researchers from Chile, Argentina, the UK, Thailand, and The Netherlands who work on gastrointestinal diseases.
The project is entitled "Loss of gut homeostasis due to the complex interaction between genetics, immune response and microbiota" and is led on the UMCG side by Principal Investigators Klaas-Nico Faber and Gerard Dijkstra of the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. They have a longstanding collaboration with Dr Marcela Hermoso Ramello of Universidad de Chile, who is the lead PI on the Chilean side and the main applicant. Together they supervise Daniela Parada, double degree doctoral student co-funded by CONICYT and ATTP who will defend her PhD thesis at UCH and Groningen.
In addition to Groningen, the project includes researchers from Universidad de La Plata in Argentina, Queen Mary University in the UK, and Mahidol University in Thailand.
The awarded funding allows for short stays (up to 1 month) of senior and early-stage researchers at partner laboratories and for the organization of international seminars in the period 2019-2020.
