My name is Adriana, I am from Mexico, and I am a former student of the Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology (CPE) research-oriented master program.

One of the unique things that I really liked about this program was the deeply international environment. My group was in fact made up of ten students from ten different nationalities! It was very enriching to propose research ideas and to evaluate them from different cultural angles and perspectives. All of the different cultures and backgrounds contributed to the process of coming up with solutions for the assignments we were given. This was something else I loved about the education here, we were always applying theory to real cases.

Another outstanding characteristic of the program was to have the top researchers in each area of expertise as our professors. I also really appreciated that the professors were friendly and accessible and open-minded. The courses are designed towards developing the student’s research skills such as the designing and writing of research proposals and the conducting of data analysis.

In short, this master is designed to turn students into critically-thinking scientists. This research-oriented master program allowed me to develop my own research idea, also allowing me to focus on the Mexican population.  I went to my home country to implement my project and then was able to compare the data from Mexican breast cancer patients and Dutch breast cancer patients. Right now I am conducting my PhD project on the needs of care and effective forecasting issues among Mexican breast cancer patients.
