FAQ about the research masters

Q: Which master programs are coordinated by the UMCG/Medical Faculty of the University of Groningen?

A: the UMCG coordinates three two-year (Research) Masters:

  • Molecular Medicine and Innovative Treatment (MMIT)
  • Clinical & Psychosocial Epidemiology (CPE)
  • International Master in Innovative Medicine (IMIM) - an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) with the excellence label of the European Commission

Q: Does the UMCG offer scholarships for the research masters?

A: Each year, the UMCG offers a limited number of scholarships for MPDI and CPE to a selected number of qualified applicants. If you want to be eligible for these scholarships, you may indicate this in your application. If you have questions on the MMMIT & CPE scholarships you are advised to contact the program coordination.

IMIM is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) that holds the excellence label of the European Commission. The IMIM program is offered in a consortium with two other European partners (University of Heidelberg in Germany & Uppsala University in Sweden) and four Latin American partners (UNAM/Mexico; UdeA/Colombia; USP/Brazil; and PUC/Chile). Q: Can I apply to the Abel Tasman Talent Program of the GSMS in order to fund my master?

A: No. The Abel Tasman Talent Program (ATTP) does not offer any scholarships for master students. The scholarships offered by the UMCG for the master programs fall under the coordination of the master team. Contact the master programs in case you require more information.

If you are a student interested in one of the masters and want to be more sure about your choice, you may however be eligible to apply to an ATTP Research Voucher, which provides 1-month partial funding.

Q: How can I find out more about the research topics covered by the University Medical Center Groningen?

A: You may find some more information on UMCG research here and download the research portfolio. In case you are unsure whether the UMCG covers the research topic of your interest, please do not hesitate to contact the Graduate School of Medical Sciences! 

Q: Do the UMCG master programs have second semester enrollment?

A: No, unfortunately it is not possible to start in the second (Spring) semester. All of our master programs start at the beginning of September of each year.
