Conference in review: “III IN.NL ANNUAL CONFERENCE: Science without Frontiers”

The “III IN.NL ANNUAL CONFERENCE: Science without Frontiers” was held on the Rode Zaal, University Medical Center Groningen of the University of Groningen this past November 30th & December 1st, 2018. and was organized by the Network of Chilean Researchers in The Netherlands, with support from the Chilean Embassy in The Netherlands, ChileGlobal and the Graduate School of Medical Sciences of the University of Groningen.

We had the participation of keynote speakers coming from Chile and The Netherlands, like the Chilean National Exacts Sciences Award Prize Winner Dr. Jose Maza Sancho, the Chilean Undersecretary of Ministry of Science, technology, knowledge and innovation, Dra. Carolina Torrealba. We also had the opportunity to listen to Dra. Christien Klaufus, Dutch Architect and lecturer of the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation and Dr. Patricio Silva, Chilean Political Scientist and Professor of Modern Latin American History in Leiden University. We were also very glad to receive Maria Teresa Infante, our Chilean Ambassador in The Netherlands, during this meeting.

The conference was held over two days and the scientific sessions were spread over four different thematic tracks:

•          Engineering and technology

•          Biomedical Sciences

•          Social and environmental sustainability

•          Education, communication and society

            We received over 60 academic, researchers and students coming from all over The Netherlands, listened to more than 30 different expositions ranging from philosophy to optical fibres and had the opportunity to discuss one-to-one with the professors and speakers invited. We discussed how to improve the science done in Chile, how collaborations and networking can help the development of every country and how each of our research topics can bring something different and new to the discussion.
